The name of this piece of furniture says its purpose - it is used to put cups of coffee on it. But is there something else? Apparently coffee tables are something more than just small tables.
First one appeared in 19th century and from this time became an irreplaceable element of every living room. The part of the definition which says that `it`s placed in front of a couch` as a referral to other piece of furniture shows that coffee tables weren`t one of the first in development in the history of furniture. But its purposes made it one of the most useful furniture. Why is that?
Imagine that you are watching TV. You like to do that with a cup of tea in one hand and a biscuit in the other, having legs really high. Or with your friends enjoying sports emotions while drinking a beer. So where to put all the snacks and drinks as not on the coffee table? Of course you can leave it on the floor or on the other pieces of furniture but your comfort is decreasing. Not saying about the mess that it forms while filling the whole room with cups and plates. An idea of an exclusive look of your living room will be totally lost!

Coffee tables are inseparable elements of entertainment, rest and also the look of the living room. You may say that they have an affect on the social life of every family. You can play games while sitting around it, put books and magazines on it. The confirmation of the social meaning of those furniture might be saying: `gather round the coffee table` which refers to a nice light conversation. Also guests attention usually focuses on the centre of the room. You will attract their sight when putting the some fresh flowers on coffee table, stylish table-cloth or napkins embroidered by yourself. Also when the coffee table is brand new it may not need any other decorations cause it can also easily serve as an ornament.
To play this role it should be chosen very carefully. We can buy it only after deciding in what style our living room would suppose to be. It is important because there are a lot of different types of coffee tables vary in material, colours, sizes and shapes. The most popular are round glass coffee tables and rectangular coffee tables made of wood. They satisfy almost every taste and suit every living room. For example when you need a big surface for a big family that loves playing games you will probably choose the second option, but when you like to make room look more sophisticated and exclusive you will choose the first one (glass tables bring more light and look really beautiful).
Coffee tables in the living room area are as much essential as dining tables in dining room. No special chairs were designed for coffee tables (as dining table has its dining chairs) but it`s such a nice place that you only want to lay on the couch or just sit on the soft, warm carpet and feel the amazing mood that it brings!
